From boundary to board pack
EMIZ is materials-first carbon accounting with an accounting-software mental model: organisations and sites, a journal, official AU factors, tasks and evidence, a period lock, and an export. Built for mid-market manufacturers — not a 10-tier supply-chain suite.
Reporting boundary
Tell EMIZ whether you are a Commonwealth entity or a private company. Organisation type lives in Business details; Boundaries keeps Other / voluntary per report year. The walkthrough applies the Emissions Reporting Framework (CAIGO / ERF) or ASIC RG 280 size groups, NGER registration, and asset-owner paths. Compulsory years appear on a timeline; Scope 3 timing follows AASB S2 / RG 280. An interactive GHG Protocol map then marks which activity sources belong in the inventory.
Sites and companies
One login can hold more than one organisation. Switch companies from the header. Each org has sites (plant, warehouse, office) with code, address, and contact — the cost centres of the emissions ledger. Dashboard and journal totals roll up by site.
Activities and journal
Build the GHG structure for the year (scopes and sources), then post lines the way you would post a journal: source, quantity, unit, factor, scope, site, and date. Flag measured vs estimated. Attach evidence when you save. Open tasks show as badges on import groups. The journal filters by scope with live tCO₂e totals. Periods are draft or locked — a lock freezes further imports for that year.
NGA and ERF factors
The factor library is the Australian National Greenhouse Accounts catalog (by edition year) plus ERF source tables — energy, fuels, refrigerants, travel, and materials. Search and filter in-product, or open the full workbook explorer. Apply a factor to a line; override only when you mean to, with the source still visible. Custom org factors sit alongside the catalogs.
Import, uploads, and mappings
Upload a spreadsheet, map columns to the journal, validate rows, then post. Save the mapping per organisation so the next close is a re-run, not a rebuild. Templates cover materials batches and activity extracts. The Uploads inbox holds evidence files — start a new activity from CSV/Excel, or attach other files to an existing posted card.
Tasks and notes
A period task board (kanban and list) with assignees, due dates, links to activity imports, attachments, notes, and replies. Complete with feedback so ops and finance share one close list instead of a side spreadsheet of chase items.
Reports and dashboard
The home screen shows period emissions by Scope 1 / 2 / 3 and by site. Reports export to PDF, Excel, and a methodology PDF for the board pack. Numbers come from posted journal lines and applied factors — not a separate shadow spreadsheet.
Team, MFA, and audit
Invite Admin, Editor, or Viewer. Every sign-in asks for a 6-digit email code; an authenticator app is optional under Account → Security. Line history records who posted or changed activity. Built in Melbourne, with production data intended for Australia.
What we are not claiming
AI column mapping, PDF invoice extraction, and ERP sync are on the roadmap — always with a human confirm before anything posts. We do not sell Modern Slavery / supply-chain risk scoring. There is no “reviewed” period status — only draft and locked. EMIZ is not SOC 2 certified as a company yet; host certifications are described on the Security page.
